Autism Play Skills Groups in St. George, UT

Play Groups

We provide play skills groups for children with ASD. We have many different groups for different ages and levels of skill development. Groups focus on fun peer learning and play activities. This is a great way for children to develop a wide range of play and leisure skills. Play and leisure skills provide opportunities to interact with peers and develop healthy hobbies and skills in children. Groups also allow for practice of social communication, cooperation, tolerance, problem solving, friendship building, and more.

How We Approach Play Skills Group Development

Assessment and Group Selection

Some children may enter play skills groups immediately after their initial assessment. Other children may first be recommended for individual therapy to develop a comfort level with therapy and to develop the ability to follow instructions and rules. Some children may be recommended for both individual and group play skills. However, almost all our clients eventually are recommended to Play Skills groups. It is a great way to make friends and practice critical social skills. Sometimes Play Skills and Social skills groups are combined.

Group Structure

Groups range in size from 3 to 8 kids. Children are generally in a group that is similar in age and abilities. There are usually at least 1 staff provided for every two kids. Groups are generally from 2-3 hours multiple times per week. Groups are generally in our clinic setting but sometimes are held in community settings as well. Children have individual social goals that they are working on. They participate in small and large group activities to help them practice their specific goals. Children generally find these activities super fun and engaging.
